Pub chain bosses say they do not have a date when The William White in Nuneaton will reopen

A pest problem has forced a Wetherspoons pub in Nuneaton to close.

Health inspectors went into the William White pub yesterday after pub management had already taken the decision to close the doors, forcing customers to drink up and leave the venue.

Notices have been placed on the windows of the pub apologising to customers for the closure.

A spokesperson for Wetherspoons said they were unsure when when the Newdegate Street-based boozer will re-open, but efforts are being made to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “We can confirm that The William White in Nuneaton closed yesterday due to pest control issues.

“This is a matter that the pub manager and the company take seriously and it needs to be resolved before the pub reopens.

“At present our maintenance teams are liaising with the pest control experts in order to resolve the issues.

“We do not yet have a date and time when the pub will reopen. We apologise to our customers for the inconvenience.”

Pest-ridden Nuneaton pub will not re-open

A PEST-ridden Nuneaton town centre pub will not re-open its doors again.

Bosses at Wetherspoons have revealed that, following 'pest control issues', they have taken the decision to close the William White permanently.

The loss of the Newdegate Street-based boozer is another hammer-blow to the town centre, in the wake of the loss of the Co-op and the pending closure of BHS.

But the closure of the William White has safe-guarded the uncertain future of the other Wetherspoons pub in town, the Felix Holt.

As featured in the News, a decision was made to put the Stratford Street-based pub on the market.

But now, in the wake of the closure of the William White, the Felix Holt will remain in the Wetherspoon portfolio, safe-guarding its future.

A spokesperson for Wetherspoon explained that all staff at the William White will be relocated to other pubs in the chain.

Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: " We can confirm that Wetherspoon has closed The William White pub in Nuneaton.

"All of the pub staff have been relocated to other Wetherspoon pubs.

"It will not reopen as a Wetherspoon pub.

"The Felix Holt pub in the town, which was on the market, is no longer for sale and will remain open as a Wetherspoon pub.

"No decision has been made on the future of the William White pub site."

Bavarian bar set to open in empty Nuneaton pub

A Nuneaton pub which closed in the summer is due to re-open for ten days only, before transforming into a Bavarian-themed bar.

The old William White pub, which was run by Wetherspoons, had to close in July due to pest control issues, but nightclub bosses are set to give it a new lease of life.

Now the owners of Nuneaton nightclub Fever have bought the pub in Newdegate Street and will be giving people the chance to have one last dance in the William White as it re-opens for ten nights only, starting from tonight.

After the William White, which used to be the Chicago Rock Cafe, closes for good next week, nightclub bosses will give the pub a £200,000 make-over to transform it into a German Bierkellar, which is set to open in February next year.

Nathan White, Fever’s manager, said that similar German Bierkellars are open elsewhere in the country and they were excited to be bringing the brand to Nuneaton.

“We are really excited to be opening the Bierkellar Nuneaton,” he said.

“We will be carrying out a full refurbishment of the old William White bar, it will look completely different and will have a completely different feel about the place.”

Speaking about the decision to open the ‘pop-up William White’ bar, he said: “We know that people have missed William Whites so we thought that we would open it for ten nights only before it is closed for the refurbishment for the new bar.”

Wetherspoon bosses were forced to close the William White - the birth name of Nuneaton entertainer Larry Grayson - in July due to pest control issues.

Despite getting rid of the problems, Wetherspoon chiefs decided not to re-open the bar as it already has another in town, the Felix Holt in Stratford Street,

The new Bavarian-themed bar will be open on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights and will serve traditional food as well as ales, and also feature an Ooompah band.

It is understood that the old William White paraphernalia will be donated to art gallery and museum in Nuneaton.
