Police woman injured during arrest in Nuneaton

A police woman was attacked after she tried to stop a pair of suspected car thieves in Nuneaton.

The officer, who has not been identified, suffered injuries to her arm and hand during the incident in Stockingford.

Warwickshire Police has said that at 11.30am on Saturday, October 1, the bobby was patrolling along Black-A-Tree Road when a member of the public flagged her down to report that two men had smashed a window at her home and tried to steal a car.

The officer apprehended the two men in Byford Street but as she tried to arrest them, she was attacked.

A 31-year-old man from Rugby was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, assaulting a police officer, escaping from lawful custody and vehicle interference. A 22-year-old man from Nuneaton was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, assaulting a police officer and vehicle interference.

Both were taken into custody and questioned before being released on police bail.

Investigations are ongoing and police want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the incident.
