Two people had to be cut free from vehicles following a collision in Radford Road, Coventry, on Tuesday evening.

The emergency services were called to the scene at the Beake Avenue junction at around 6pm following reports of a serious two-car collision.

The road was closed in both directions for a lengthy period while firefighters and paramedics dealt with the aftermath.

Two people were freed by firefighters before being taken to hospital.

Radford Road remained closed for some time after from Lydgate Road and Keresley Road, with the number 16 and 16a buses being diverted.

It is the second serious collision to take place on Radford Road following a head-on collision less than a month ago.

West Midlands Fire Service posted pictures on social media of the damaged vehicles which had their roofs removed in order to free the occupants.

A fire service spokesman tweeted: “Crews from Coventry attending collision Radford Rd Coventry two casualties being removed from vehicles expect delays.”
