A Coventry city centre car park has been shut by police this afternoon due to a man on the roof.

A man can be seen at the top of the Belgrade Plaza car park, next to the Belgrade Theatre and a huge new students flats development, which is currently under construction.

No roads have been affected but the car park has been closed to motorists since 2.30pm when police were called.

People have been unable to recover their cars from the multi-storey car park, which also sits next to the Premier Inn hotel and JD Gym just off junction nine of the ring road.

Ambulance are also in attendance, after being called by the police around 3pm.

Coventry city centre car park reopens after police incident

A Coventry city centre car park was shut by police this afternoon due to a man on the roof.

A man was seen at the top of the Belgrade Plaza car park, next to the Belgrade Theatre and a huge new students flats development, which is currently under construction.

No roads have been affected but the car park was closed to motorists since 2.30pm when police were called.

People have been unable to recover their cars from the multi-storey car park, which also sits next to the Premier Inn hotel and JD Gym just off junction nine of the ring road.

Ambulance are also in attendance, after being called by the police around 3pm.

A police cordon was put in place but has now been lifted and the car park has reopened.

The man has been taken to hospital and will be detained under the Mental Health Act.
