This was the moment a car smashed in to the front doors of a Greggs store in Coventry.

Fortunately neither the driver or any of the customers in the shop in Canley were hurt in the accident at around 4pm on Sunday.

The grey Peugeot did, however, cause substantial damage to the front door of the bakery which only opened in Vanguard Avenue earlier this year.

Fire crews from nearby Canley station were called to help pull the car from the shop.

Watch Commander Ian Taggart, from Canley fire station, said: “An elderly gentleman parked up outside and it appears he put his foot on the accelerator rather than the brake.

“There were about five people in the shop but nobody was too close to the door and the driver was shook up but he was okay.”
