M6 near Coventry brought to standstill after three-vehicle crash

Driver taken to hospital after accident involving two vans and a car leads to two-hour delays

The M6 near Coventry was brought to a standstill early this morning after an accident between two vans and a car.

The incident happened at around 7am on the southbound carriageway between junction 3a for the M6 Toll and junction 3 for Nuneaton/Bedworth/Coventry.

Three lanes were closed while emergency services worked to clear the scene.

Highways Agency were also required to clean the road after a significant fuel spill.

Motorists were stuck in two-hour delays which stretched back to junction 4 for the M42.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 7.09 to reports of a car and two vans that had been in collision.

“We got it down as being between J4 and J3a.

“Looks like there were three patients initially, one of whom has been conveyed to UHCW.

“The patient taken to hospital was a man thought to be in his 40s from the car.

“The man was treated for minor neck and back pain and taken to UHCW.

“The van drivers are uninjured.”
