A fire at a block of flats in Coventry city centre is believed to have been arson.

Fire crews from across the city were called to Hillman House, in Smithford Way, after the blaze started shortly after 2pm on Tuesday.

A pile of rubbish had been set alight in an eighth floor flat and the firefighters from the stations in the city centre and Binley used hydrants in nearby Corporation Street as they tackled the flames.

West Midlands Fire Service confirmed the incident was being treated as arson and police were informed.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said that no arrests have been made and the case is with the force CID for investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting incident 20CV/123423T/16.
