Lloyds Bank to close Gosford Green branch

Lloyds Bank is closing one of its branches in Coventry.

The bank, at the top of Far Gosford Street, is due to close on Monday, April 18.

Bosses claim less than 30 regular customers use the bank each week.

In a statement, the bank said people could withdraw cash, make deposits and check balances at the nearby Post Office or at the Lloyds Bank branch in High Street, in the city centre.

A spokesman said: “We have another branch close by that allows us to serve the local area.

“In addition, the property lease on this branch is due to expire which has contributed to the decision of which branch will close.

“We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause, and have informed customers of the closest alternative branch, which is on High Street less than a mile away.”

The closure comes after Lloyds announced plans to close 29 of its branches across the country.

The biggest retail banking group in the UK will shut 19 of its own banks, as well as seven Bank of Scotland and three Halifax branches.

I hope that if this is the case Lloyds will be improving the woefully inadequate service currently offered at High Street.

Hint: Opening all the teller points might be a good start.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

Half are now enquiry desks aren't they?

In any case it didn't help when I was last there. For the first twenty minutes no one moved, all were occupied by customers doing complicated foreign money transfers.

Also Lloyds has a funny definition of "nearby", I take it none of them has ever walked from the top of Far Gosford Street to the top of the High Street?

I remember when they shut Corporation Street, the first I knew was when I visited the branch to make a payment. There was a pile of letters on the counter, none of which had been mailed to customers. It read (I kid you not) "In order to bring you a better service we are closing your local branch"! :clown:

Last time I was in the High St branch, only 3 of the 6 teller positions were open: even the 'business point' was closed. What irked me though was that some 'manager' kept wandering round suggesting people use the ATMs. If I wanted to use an ATM I wouldn't be stood in the bl**dy queue would I? - He seemed most put out when I told him as much. :hysterical:

Received reams of paper from Lloyds Bank this morning informing me that the interest rate on unplanned overdrafts is being reduced from 19.94% to just 19.98%, a whopping saving of 0.06%!

Thank you so much for this overwhelmingly generous gesture Lloyds. :clown:

I tried to buy a washing machine last. Despite the fact it was the cheapest machine available and there more than enough money in my account to pay for it they blocked my card! I had to go through a ridiculously long telephone procedure, twice, to unblock it. :fuming:

I was only lucky I didn't need that card again in a hurry to buy groceries say or to get home.

I used the High St branch this morning. New cashier didn't know me and questioned my signature! She then tells me that they don't have my current address, despite me telling them several times over several years. - Maybe this is why they don't write to me? She then tries to sell me an ISA. - No thanks.

Onto the next bank, where they tried to sell me a mortgage!

In the end, it was almost a pleasure to deposit a cheque in the machine to pay the council tax.

Thank God I don't deal with these places very often.

A woman in the Earlsdon branch in 2008 asked me if I needed any financial advice and I pointed out to her that the last thing I need was advice from a bank which has just gone bust (to the great hilarity of the customers standing behind me).

I see the forthcoming sale of the government's remaining stake in Lloyds which was due in August is now on the skids with the recent slide in its share price.
