Drivers ended up stranded and horses marooned by floods after heavy rains hit Warwickshire yesterday.

Emergency services are warning of flooding dangers and a total of 15 flood warnings are in place across the region after Saturday’s downpours.

The Environment Agency alerts applied to the River Sherbourne at Allesley, Finham Brook at Kenilworth and the River Anker at Mancetter, Witherley and Atherstone.

A paramedic based at Warwick told on Twitter how he came to the rescue of a motorist stranded in flood water on Saturday night.

Warwickshire Fire Service said it received several calls to cars stuck in flood water in the Wootton Wawen, Great Alne and Aston Cantlow areas last night.

Roads in Warwickshire were on Sunday still affected by rising water levels.

In Furnace End, Nuneaton Road was blocked because of flooding near the B4098/B4116 Atherstone Road.

And in Lapworth, Old Warwick Road was partly blocked due to flooding at Packwood Lane.

Meanwhile there was a flood warning for the River Sherbourne in Washbrook Lane at Brown’s Lane/Butt Lane/The Windmill Hill.

The extreme weather also led to six horses becoming marooned in a field surrounded by flood water in Bridge Street, Barford, Warwickshire.

The RSPCA called on Warwickshire Fire Service to help on Sunday morning and four of the horses had been led to safety by about 11am.

Fire crews were awaiting the arrival of the large animal rescue unit to rescue the last two horses.

The Met Office said there would be more rain on Monday.
