Police say the discovery of a body in a Spon End block of flats is not being treated as suspicious.

Paramedics were first called to Meadow House, in Meadow Street, at 12.39pm on Saturday to reports of a man in cardiac arrest on the 16th floor stairwell.

When they arrived it quickly emerged that the 47-year-old could not be saved and he was declared dead at the scene.

One resident said the man’s body had been in the stairwell for several hours before paramedics were called.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said paramedics attended the scene for around an hour.

West Midlands Police said they were called to the flats by the ambulance service at around 1pm.

A spokesman for the force said the death was not being treated as suspicious.

It’s understood the man died as a result of a drug overdose.

A file is being prepared for the coroner ahead of an inquest, which is expected to be opened at some point in the next few days.
