Richard Maycock, from Swanage Green, Walsgrave, also pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to two counts of sexual activity with a child by a person in a position of trust.

Sentencing is due to take place later.

Maycock denied touching the pupil at a swimming pool in Coventry and said he did not even enter the room in which she was changing.

The 44-year-old was on trial at Coventry Crown Court accused of sexual activity with a child in October 2013.

Giving evidence, Maycock said that although he had advised the pupil about the school’s policy on swimwear, he had not then entered a toilet where she was changing and made inappropriate comments before touching her.

The jury heard that Maycock has pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual activity with a child by a person in a position of trust, with regard to a pupil at a school in Redditch in 2006.

The prosecution say this shows his “propensity” to act in this way.

Defending, Ian Speed asked Maycock: “Did you enter that changing room?”. “No”, Maycock replied.

“Did you do anything that could have been interpreted by her as an assault of a sexual nature?”. “No.”

When being cross-examined by David Jackson for the prosecution, Maycock said that he advised the girl of the school’s policy regarding bikinis.

However Mr Jackson said: “You wanted her to wear the bikini and found her attractive. You went in to that room and took the opportunity to touch her.”

“That’s incorrect”, Maycock replied.

Mr Jackson also said that the denial of the relationship with the pupil at the school in Redditch, even when interviewed with police, showed Maycock was prone to lying.

Maycock was also questioned over how he came to have the Coventry pupil’s number in his mobile phone.

Maycock said that she had offered to help find out which students at the school had been involved in “egging” his house.

“Foolishly I accepted and gave her my number as well,” he said.

“I’m supposed to be a man, a husband and a father, and be someone who protects my family.

“I was paranoid (about the house being attacked) and (the pupil) was sympathetic. I was desperate and made a foolish mistake.

“It has cost me my job, my livelihood and I will beat myself up forever for this.”

Mr Jackson said Maycock was lying and asked why her number was stored under the name ‘Simon’. Maycock said he did not know.

Mr Jackson also said that Maycock asked the girl to send her a picture of a poster in her bedroom. Maycock denied this.

It was also put to the defendant that he had ‘liked’ and then quickly ‘unliked’ a picture on the pupil’s Facebook page. “I didn’t do that”, said Maycock.

Summing up, Mr Jackson told the jury: “Someone is lying to you - it’s a stark choice.

“It would be a bizarre thing to make up, so has the defendant stood there and told you the truth or has he lied to you?”

For some reason the article omits the name of the school at which he taught even though it has been reported previously as being Caludon Castle.

Coventry teacher with sexual interest in teenage girls is jailed

A teacher with a “deep rooted sexual interest” in teenage girls has been jailed for two and a half years for sexual activity with two of his pupils.

Coventry PE teacher Richard Maycock, aged 44, was only caught out when his second victim, aged just 15, bravely reported him to police last year.

When officers launched an investigation a second victim - who he had groomed and had sex with - came forward.

Today at Coventry Crown Court Maycock, of Swanage Green, Walsgrave, was sent to prison.

At a court hearing earlier this year Maycock pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual activity with a child by a person in a position of trust.

He denied the charge of sexual activity with a 15-year-old relating to the Coventry teenager, but was found guilty after a trial.

At a court hearing earlier this year Maycock pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual activity with a child by a person in a position of trust.

He denied the charge of sexual activity with a 15-year-old relating to the Coventry teenager, but was found guilty after a trial.

Ian Speed, defending Maycock, said: “He is a man who through his own foolish behaviour has lost everything.

“He has lost his career, which was a good career in which he was well liked by students.

“He has lost all that he had and he knows he is going to prison.”

Maycock’s mother and father were in court and Mr Speed said his the former teacher’s relationship with his partner was continuing, despite his conviction.

Jailing him for a total of two-and-a-half years Judge Phillip Gregory said: “You plainly have a deep rooted sexual interest in girls far younger than yourself.

“Not pre-pubescent girls but girls aged 15 and above.

“As a teacher at two schools you took the opportunity to groom two separate girls and were able to engage in some form of sexual relationship with both of them.

“Mature teachers who groom teenage girls for their own sexual pleasure will face custody.”

A sexual harm prevention order was also made, and Maycock was placed on the sex offenders' register indefinitely.
