Birthday Honours recognise people from Coventry and Warks

A Warwickshire scout leader, a Coventry dance teacher and a local businessman have been included in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

Hundreds of individuals across the country have today been recognised for their tireless work – including many from Coventry and Warwickshire.

They included a well-known Coventry dance teacher has also been awarded a BEM for services to dance in Coventry.

Elaine Ferry opened the Three Spires Dance School in 1985 where she has taught thousands of dancers – some of whom are currently starring in the West End and appearing at theatres around the world.

Coventry City Council’s executive director of people, Brian Walsh, has been awarded an OBE in this year’s list.

Brian, 55, who is also chairman of KeyRing, a national charity for people with learning disabilities, will be retiring from the council in September.

Judith Ann Lowe, deputy chair of the Construction Industry Training Board, who receives an OBE for services to the construction industry, particularly Women in construction, in Warwick.

Fay Maxted, chief executive officer of The Survivors’ Trust, who has been awarded an OBE for services to victims of rape and sexual violence in Rugby.

Carol Burke, managing director of the Unipart Manufacturing Group, who was awarded a CBE for services to engineering in Coventry.

Donna Marie Lewis, the head of Consolidation and Financial Reporting Education Funding Agency, also receives an MBE for services to Education in Warwickshire.

Sandra Price, former netball coach, has been awarded an MBE for services to netball in Coventry.

Barry John Ewington, president of the Nuneaton Harriers, has been given a BEM for services to athletics in the Midlands.
