Fire crews arrived at Chrisam’s sandwich shop in Humber Road to find a Lexus RX300 wedged in to the shutters at just before 2pm.

The couple in the car were both helped out of the Lexus by firefighters and then taken to hospital to be checked over.

The owner of the sandwich shop, who has been there for about five years, said the inside of the shop was badly damaged as well as the shutter and window on the outside.

Watch commander Craig Berridge, from Binley fire station, said: “The car has gone in to the front of the shop and luckily the shop was closed and no-one was inside.

“The couple who were in the car were both assisted out of the vehicle and were taken to hospital as a precaution.”
