Pair, armed with gun and metal bar, flee empty handed after attack on Friday

Thieves who brandished a handgun during a terrifying armed robbery at a busy post office were fought off by brave staff.

Police were called to Earlsdon Post Office in Earlsdon Street just after 5.35pm on Friday following reports that two men had threatened people inside.

The pair ran away empty handed though after staff fought back.

It’s believed the men escaped through an alleyway at the side of the post office.

Police are investigating the robbery and they’re appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward.

Detective Inspector Ben West, of West Midlands Police CID, said: “We believe that the two men, one armed with a suspected hand gun and another armed with a metal bar, stormed into the store.

“They were forced to leave empty handed after staff fought them off – we are now appealing to anyone who may have information that could lead to the arrest of these men to come forward.”

Anyone with information is urged to call Coventry Police’s serious acquisitive crime team on 101.

Alternatively if you don’t want to speak directly to police, or wish to give evidence anonymously, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
