Part of Coventry’s ring road will be closed this weekend as the multimillion pound Friargate scheme reaches another major milestone.
Work on the new pedestrian bridge deck, at the train station junction of the ring road, will see the west bridge of the raised gyratory demolished.
The ring road beneath - between junction five, for the Skydome, and junction seven, for the police station - will be closed to all traffic in both directions from 10pm on Saturday, July 26 until 5am on Monday, July 28.
Access to the railway station via the entry slip from junction five - together with the new inbound entrance on Eaton Road - will remain open.
The usual exit from the station via Manor Road and round into Warwick Road will also stay open at all times.
The exit slip road to the city centre, from Warwick Road down towards junction seven, will also be kept clear.
Access to Central Six and Warwick Road shops opposite, will also be maintained as will pedestrian routes in the area.
Coun Rachel Lancaster, cabinet member for public services said: “Sunday, July 27 and the demolition of the west bridge, marks another significant date for the bridge deck project.
“There has already been an enormous amount of work that has taken place within the site since we began in March and we are progressing fantastically.
“The bridge deck and the Friargate development is a hugely important part of our continuing regeneration plans and will be the most noticeable change to the face of our city in decades.
“Once complete, it will create an impressive visual and physical link between the railway station and the city centre and will kick-start development in Coventry, create new jobs and help us create a city residents can be proud of and one that people will want to visit.”

Coventry ring road's West Bridge demolished
A bridge over Coventry's ring road has been demolished in the latest milestone of a £59m redevelopment.
West Bridge was removed on Sunday. The ring road was due to be shut from Saturday night until 05:00 on Monday between junctions five and seven.
The redevelopment, called Friargate, will include a new bridge linking the city centre and railway station.
Junction six will remain closed at most times until June 2015 while further construction takes place.
