Flood fears hold up plans to build apartments at Nuneaton

Fri Jul 25, 2014 7:41 pm

Concerns over flooding have again held up plans to build an apartment block on waste ground in Nuneaton.

The application, to develop the site between Bucks Hill and Salisbury Drive, has been before the borough council planning committee a number of times and has also been the subject of an appeal to a government inspector.

Nearby residents have objected because of the fear of water flowing into their properties from the land, which slopes towards a natural brook.

Councillors deferred the matter at a previous meeting for a report from a Warwickshire County Council expert regarding the installation of an underground water storage tank.

But following confusion over the proposed capacity of the tank, the item was put back for further clarification.

Committee chairman Coun Bill Hancox said: “There is clearly some discrepancy in the figures. We want to know the exact size of the tank and how it will be maintained in the future.”

Donna Davies, who lives in Salisbury Drive, showed members a video of water gushing into her garden during a recent rain storm and said that the development “would have an unacceptable impact on residents.”

The application, for 10 apartments in a two and three-storey building, with parking for 15 vehicles, is by Welton and Holland Developments.
