John Terry has been sacked as the England captain

Fabio Capello has stripped John Terry of the England captaincy. Was it the right decision?

England boss Fabio Capello stripped John Terry of his captaincy "in the best interest of the team".

At a press conference the England manager said: "After much thought, I have made the decision that it will be best for me to take the captaincy away from John Terry.

"As a captain with the team, John Terry has displayed extremely positive behaviour. However, I have to take into account other considerations and what is best for all of the England squad".

The move means vice captain Rio Ferdinand will replace the Chelsea man, with Steven Gerrard acting as his deputy.

That's a bit extreme isn't it? I mean, it's not as if he did anything wrong on the pitch?

I'm sure Capello originally said he wouldn't sack him. Someone will be digging up the dirt on Rio Ferdinand now I guess :?

I seem to remember that Fedinand was involved some time ago in a drugs scandal when he should have been having a drugs test and disappeared :?: :?: :?:

I think you're right Stevie - I remember that - which is far worse than someone having an affair!! I think Capello had little choice - and was acting under instruction - that's my opinion anyway.

I guess they're trying to avoid a media circus - but it'll happen anyway = especially when the WAG's tag along

Here's a link to the new England captain :rolling:
