Coventry in country's top ten areas for divorce

COVENTRY is among the top ten areas for unhappily married couples, according to a government report.

Some 1,776 divorce petitions were lodged in the city last year - the fifth highest level of any city or town outside of London.

Birmingham topped the list with 2,799 couples applying for divorce, the Ministry of Justice said.

The figures were released by the MoJ urging separating couples to use publicly-funded mediators and avoid traumatic courtroom battles.

Lord McNally, family justice minister, said: “All too often I hear stories of families going through expensive court hearings. Mediation is a far cheaper approach and leads to better outcomes.”
