Postby dutchman » Tue Jan 15, 2013 11:38 pm

HAVE your say on the town’s future and speak to people behind the decisions at a launch in Jubilee House on Wednesday January 16 from 10am

Kenilworth Town Action Plan public consultation is now open until February 18 in hope of getting in the views of the whole town and finding out what residents want to see in the town over the next 18 years.

Get along to Jubilee House on Wednesday to meet town councillors leading the project, town mayor and Warwick District Council officers to find out more about the consultation and what it means for you.

A town council spokesperson said: “This is an important consultation, shaping Kenilworth in the future and we want to ensure that it is publicised widely to give as many locals as possible the opportunity to have their say.”

Visit the town council’s website to access the online questionnaire at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/kenilwort ... views_2013

One survey should be completed per person, or contact the council to have your say.

Kenilworth Action Plan consultation extended

A PUBLIC consultation for Kenilworth residents to help shape the future of the town has been extended.

More than 1,000 responses have been submitted to help inform the Kenilworth Action Plan, which will look at a number of major changes.

The town, with a population of more than 25,000, is accepting responses by post or online on issues such as recreating the historic Kenilworth Castle moat and building a new sports complex.

The vision will form part of Kenilworth’s contribution to an overarching local plan to shape Warwick District for the next 15 years.

Snow meant flyers trialling the survey were delayed from being hung on wheelie bins for half of the town.

Residents will now have an extra week to contribute before the deadline on February 25.

Norman Vincett, leader of Kenilworth Town Council, said: “We’re very pleased with the way things are progressing.

“By last Saturday we had more than 1,000 responses and in the next fortnight we hope to double that, which will be tremendous.

“People are not just ticking the boxes but they’re adding useful and interesting comments.”

A huge banner calling for residents to take part has been hung over the main Warwick Road and questionnaires left in public buildings.

The 38 questions cover issues such as:

  • turning Castle Farm Recreation Centre into an all purpose sports complex for Kenilworth Rugby Club and the Wardens’ Cricket Club.
  • The development of a new theatre next to the library to house the Talisman Theatre Company.
  • Preventing any out-of-town shopping developments.

Of the first 850 responses, only three per cent were submitted by under-25s.

Councillors have since targeted youngsters in an effort to get their voices heard.

Coun Vincett added: “We’ve been addressing sixth form pupils in Kenilworth and that has been tremendous.

“We’ve found the young people being really positive and constructive.

“They were thinking laterally and not just about their age group, but about what their parents’ and grandparents’ age groups would want as well.”

Councillors will be available at Jubilee House between 10am and midday for the next two Saturdays.

To complete the survey Kenilworth residents can visit http://www.kenilworthtowncouncil.co.uk or call 01926 859155 to order a questionnaire.
