Dozens of schools were set to be closed in Warwickshire and Coventry on Monday because of snowfall and ice.

Warwickshire schools began announcing closures on Sunday afternoon, with many saying the condition of roads and the weather had created dangerous conditions.

Coventry schools have also been announcing closures on Twitter and the city council's website.

Drivers have been urged to take extra care on the roads.

Stan Milewski, senior road safety officer for Warwickshire County Council, said gritting teams had been out "24-7" since the snow fell.

However, emergency services warned that many roads and pavements remained icy.

The Met Office predicted a 60% chance of more snowfall in Coventry and parts of Warwickshire on Monday.

The office has issued a yellow warning of snow and ice for most of the UK and advised traffic conditions may be difficult and dangerous.
