Families in Coventry were left without power for 14 hours on Christmas Day.The wet weather meant that some people living in Crabmill Lane, Paradise, had no electricity between 4am and 6pm.
Residents even had to start a fire to keep warm outside Millhouse Court – a nearby sheltered housing complex.
William Bromwich, who lives in the area, said: “I have to care for my mother so I got up just after 4am and tried to turn on the lights.
“There must have been about 80 homes that were without power. They were blaming it on all the wet weather.
“One lucky neighbour had power and they were terrific, letting people go round and boil their kettles.
“We were quite literally having to go cold turkey because no-one could cook one.
“And it must have been so frustrating for the kids with new toys that need power to work.”
