A 44-year-old man had to have surgery after being hit with a broken glass near the JD Wetherspoon pub, known as Lloyds No1 Cafe Bar, in Market Place.

The victim suffered a severe cut to his face and was taken to University Hospital, Walsgrave where he had an operation.

Police want to hear from anyone who was near the pub on Wednesday evening between 6.15-6.45pm who saw the disturbance or may be able to tell them anything about what happened.

Anyone with information should contact the local Investigation team on 01926 415000 extension 4169.

A 41-year-old man was arrested yesterday morning on suspicion of attacking the victim.
