Cyclists are being urged to secure their bikes at Coventry rail station after figures showed that 27 had been stolen in the last year.

British Transport Police have stepped up patrols around the station but they are still urging cyclists to make their bike less attractive to thieves. Officers holding two educational surgeries this month to try and help cut bike theft.

Police community support officer Hayley Jones said: “With the lighter, longer evenings on their way, there are naturally going to be more and more people opting to ride their bikes in the coming months. Because of this it’s more important than ever for us to ensure that cycle owners are educated and informed about how best to protect themselves from thieves.

“There are also several steps people can take to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of bike theft.”

The bike security surgeries are being held between 3.30-7pm tomorrow and between 8-11am on Thursday, March 29.
