The Lord Mayor and members of the Canley Halt Watch Group were invited to the landmark stage of the construction of Herald Lodge home, in Canley, which is being built on the site of the former Herald pub by LNT Construction for Ideal Care Homes.

Due to open in May, the new home will provide 42 full en-suite rooms for residents, landscaped gardens and its own hairdressing salon.

It is also set to create up to 50 jobs for local residents in positions from carers to chefs.

Describing it as a “much-needed facility for the city, Coun Mulhall said: “It will be a great quality care home which also benefits the community.

“It will create around forty to fifty jobs for the local community.

“The care home is required and residents will certainly enjoy their stay.

“It will also preserve the original name and become the Herald Lodge.”

S'funny, I can remember the plans initially being rejected by the planning dept as being "totally unsuitable for the area"

But another 50 low paid jobs, eh? :applause: That'll make a huge difference!
