Pane of glass crashes down near shoppers in Smithford Way

A pane of glass from a canopy came crashing down near shoppers in Coventry city centre during Monday lunchtime.



Shards of glass from the structure, which forms part of West Orchards Shopping Centre, fell onto the ground of the Smithford Way walk way at about 1pm .

A police officer, who happened to be walking past at the time, alerted shopping centre officials to the incident.

A team of about 10 staff from the shopping precinct were involved in the clean up.

Andy Talbot, centre manager, said: “Thankfully no one was hurt and we’re doing everything we can.

“The safety of the public is our number one priority.”
