Postby dutchman » Sun Nov 20, 2011 5:23 pm

A woman and four men have been taken to hospital after the car they were in hit a tree in Coventry.

The crash happened at about 02:45 GMT on Leamington Road.

An ambulance service spokeswoman said the woman suffered several suspected fractures and one of the men was thought to have internal injuries.

They were freed by the fire service but the three other men managed to free themselves before being taken to hospital with back or neck pain.

Four ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and a paramedic officer attended the scene.

Suspected internal injuries

The spokeswoman said all five people were believed to be aged in their 20s.

She said the car was "badly damaged" in the crash.

"The rear seat passenger, a woman, sustained suspected fractures to her collarbone and ribs and back pain in the crash," she said.

"The front seat passenger, a man, was assessed by crews and whilst he had no apparent external injuries they suspected internal injuries."

All five people were taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.
