Bedworth holds 90th Armistice Day parade

Thousands of people observed a two-minute silence at the 90th Armistice Day parade in a Warwickshire town.

A service was held at the War Memorial in Bedworth's Coventry Road Cemetery after the parade started in Church Way and went through the town centre.

A DC-3 Dakota flew near the memorial and poppy petals were released over Bedworth on Friday.

More than 250 troops did not return after 1,200 enlisted from the town in 1914, parade organiser Gill Leach said.

Up to 5,000 people had been expected to gather for Friday's parade and service, including hundreds of veterans from around the UK.

Millions of people across the UK observed a two-minute silence.

The annual event started at 11:00 GMT, mirroring the time guns along the western front fell silent for the final time at the end of World War I in 1918.

Ceremonies commemorated those who died in two world wars and later conflicts, including 385 UK personnel killed in Afghanistan since 2001.
