Younas Beraki, an illegal immigrant from Eritrea, was sentenced at Coventry Crown Court, after pleading guilty to the murder of Genet Kidane, aged 41, in January this year.

Genet was walking from Samuel Vale House to work in Coventry City Centre, when she was pushed from a bridge over Coventry's ring road by Baraki.

Beraki then jumped from the bridge himself and received injuries. He was later arrested and charged with her murder.

Senior Investigating Officer, DS Harry May, said: “Genet and Beraki were known to each other.

“It was known that Beraki had previously harassed Genet, which had been reported to the police.

“On the morning in question Beraki sought out his victim Genet and unmercifully pushed her off the bridge to her death.”

“This was a very sad and tragic case which led to the death of a young woman. Our thoughts go out to Genets daughter and her family.”
