Henry Fisher, of Fisher J&H Farm, will be lifting the first crop of the Royal “William” potato, on Friday.

It has been named in honour of the year’s Royal Wedding and is the successor to the King Edward.

The potato has been trialled on the Fisher Farm in a more environmental way, using 25 per cent less water and land than most other varieties.

McCain will be using the potato in its Home Chips following the autumn harvest.

Mr Fisher was one of a number of farmers chosen across the country to grow the new potato.
