Man dies in car fire in Wellesbourne

A man in his 20s died after the car he was driving left the road and caught fire in Warwickshire.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the northbound carriageway of the A429 in Wellesbourne at about 21:00 BST on Thursday.

They found the car alight in a ditch at the side of the road and fire crews were tackling the fire after pulling a man from the wreckage.

The man, the only occupant of the car, was later confirmed dead at hospital.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "The man in his 20s sustained burns and a serious head injury in the crash. Crews immediately commenced emergency treatment to stabilise his injuries."

He was taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire but was later confirmed dead.
