The tragedy happened just after 2.15pm on the railway line near Marston Lane, to the north of the town.

An ambulance crew, the West Midlands Ambulance Service Hazardous Area Response Team and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance attended.

An Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews searched the line until they found the body. Unfortunately there was nothing they could do to save the person who was confirmed dead at the scene.”

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “BTP officers were called to the railway line at Marston Lane, Bedworth, on Sunday following a report of a man being struck by a train.

“BTP attended the incident, which was reported at 2.18pm, alongside officers from Warwickshire Constabulary.

“Paramedics also attended but the man, believed to be in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Inquiries are ongoing to confirm the man’s identity and establish the full circumstances, including how he came to be on the railway line.

“The incident is currently being treated as non-suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner. The train involved was the 12.55pm Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston.”
