German maps from the Second World War pinpointing Coventry targets to bomb have sold for £200 at auction.

They were part of a collection of lots up for sale at an auction at Ludlow Racecourse, Shropshire this week.

The maps were used by Luftwaffe commanders who circled targets with purple pen for pilots to identify and attack, including factories, car manufacturers, ammunition works, canals and shipyards.

In the Coventry map a staggering 140 different targets were identified.

A large part of the city was flattened during the Second World War including the 1940 Blitz, which saw the famous cathedral destroyed.

The maps were discovered in a secret library in St Lambrecht Abbey, Austria, which was used as a bolt-hole for Nazi high command.

The collection belonged to Squadron Leader HCK Henderson, who was in charge of the mission to raid the library.

The Coventry map was one of 121 for sale at the auction.
