A popular country pub has closed suddenly after running into financial difficulties.
The Axe and Compass pub, near Wolvey, closed on June 29.
A sign pinned to the door of the family-run pub – which made its name in the 1980s as a popular eating venue – thanked customers for their support.
It read: “As from the 29th June the Axe and Compass Inn will cease to trade. We would like to thank all customers old and new for your support over the last 30 years. Sorry for any inconvenience.
“With sadness, the Jones family.”
The pub, large beer garden and some camping facilities had been run by Bob Jones and family for several years.
