Bosses have announced plans to start moving to one system for all – or Single Status – by January next year.

The idea is that it will make wages between men and women and between different departments more equal and it is a model that has been implements in Coventry Council. The process is also starting to be implemented at Warwickshire’s County Council.

Over the next few days workers at Nuneaton and Bedworth will have a letter sent to them, showing them what their new salary and conditions would be and over the next 90 days there will be a consultation where people can tell them whether they are ‘for’ or ‘against’.

The consultation period comes to an end on September 16th.

Councillor Julie Jackson, Portfolio Holder for Central Services, said:
“The Council is committed to equality both for our workers and for the services they deliver.

“There are some examples of inequality within our workforce and Single Status allows us to address these issues. This has been a long and thorough process and the Council has worked closely with the trade unions from the very beginning with the intention of removing discrimination from the workplace and ensuring equal pay for like-for-like work.

“We must emphasise that this is only the start of the consultation period and we intend to listen to what all of our workers have to say and continue to work with the unions before making any final decisions.”
