Animal shelter workers slept in a Coventry kennels to raise to raise funds and awareness of dogs in need.
Click image to enlargeStaff at Coventry’s RSPCA centre in Allesley brought their sleeping bags, duvets and pillows to work for a 24-hour sleepover in the cramped kennels.
Teams of three staff took it in turns to endure the uncomfortable conditions throughout the day on Saturday, before all 10 workers went to sleep on the kennel’s hard floor after the centre closed.
Visitors to the centre were surprised by the sight, and many donated generously towards the cost of soaring veterinary bills.
With nothing else to entertain them, the team kept regular updates on the centre’s Facebook page throughout the 24 hours and described what it must be like for dogs in their care.
Glenn Mayoll, centre manager, was touched by the public’s support.
He said: “It wasn’t easy, the kennels are uncomfortable and there was nothing to do, but we received so much support from well-wishers. It meant the world to us because we are an independent centre and rely on the support of the local public which has been fantastic.
