A jobsworth cabbie kept the meter running as paramedics treated a young mum who gave birth in the back of his car.
Incredibly, the petty taxi driver even demanded Melissa Crossdale pay a £40 “soiling fee” after her waters broke on the back seat.
Melissa, 22, of Foleshill, Coventry, said: “My baby was still attached to the umbilical cord and he just sat there watching the meter go up.
“It was five to ten minutes before the paramedics arrived and another 15 to 20 minutes before I was put in the ambulance.
“He didn’t even offer to help. It’s disgusting the way I was treated.”
Despite the ordeal baby Rowena was born fit and healthy, weighing 6lb 8oz.
Melissa was eight-and-a-half months pregnant when she began having contractions at her sister’s house in Wood End in the early hours of Thursday.
She rang Central Taxis to take her three-year-old son Ewen to her dad’s house in Peel Street, Foleshill, before taking her to University Hospital with her sister.
