Customers at a popular Nuneaton pub have handed over £500 to charity after six months of taking part in meat raffles and blackout competitions.

The money-raising activities were organised at the Royal Oak, on Attleborough Green, by licensee Kevin Bennett, his wife Jane and pub regular Karen Rice.

“We decided to do something to contribute to charity and everyone thought that the Warwickshire and Northampton-shire Air Ambulance was a very worthwhile cause.

"It is also something we will continue to support and, hopefully, we will be able to donate a similar amount in another six months,” said Mrs Rice.

“Every weekend we have a raffle, with Sunday joints as prizes, and also take blackout cards around the pub, which we never have any trouble filling.”

The money was given to Air Ambulance representative Melanie Smith, who said: “This is very gratefully received.

“It costs over £4,000 a day to keep the service going and every donation helps. It’s heartening for a pub to do something so positive to help the community.”
