Twenty five extra members of management and staff were deployed as items were delivered in Stratford-upon-Avon and Warwick on Sunday.

Royal Mail apologised for delays and said issues were due partly to working practice changes and the weather.

It added it was doing everything it could to ensure customers got mail as soon as possible.

Midlands regional operations director Paul Jobling said operational changes in Warwickshire were "part of the modernisation of Royal Mail".

He said: "It is vital that we place our business on a more efficient and sustainable footing for the future."
