There would be 21 flats in total
Two new blocks of flats could be built on land at a Coventry shopping parade.
If plans are approved there would be a total of 21 flats, across two three-storey buildings, on land at Westmede Centre off Winsford Avenue.
An application submitted to the city council says that the proposal includes two three-storey, pitched roof buildings, grassed open space and parking to serve the development and adjacent uses.
It would not impact on the NISA store in the area.
The proposed flats would be laid out in two blocks over three floors. All of the flats would have a kitchen/living area, 1 bedroom and a WC/shower.
Block A would contain 6 flats and front onto Whitaker Road. It would have a central entrance and stairwell with two flats on each floor.
Block B would contain 15 flats and face south. It would have three stairwells with 5 flats on each floor.
The site would have 55 car parking spaces as well as well storage for 36 cycles in four secure and covered locations.
"The application proposes two blocks of flats with a simple, but attractive design and a high quality environment for future residents," the application concludes.
"21 flats are proposed in this highly sustainable and accessible location adjacent to a Local Centre and other local amenities. The development would provide sufficient dedicated car and cycle parking to meet the council’s standards and it would have an acceptable impact on the surrounding highways network.
"The application is supported by a Transport Statement which recognises the sustainable location of the site. The proposed buildings have been designed to avoid impact on neighbouring properties, and provide attractive areas of grassed open space.
"The development would accord with the Local Plan and NPPF and permission should be granted."
Planning officers at the council house are currently considering the application. It can be found on the council's website by searching the planning section for reference PL/2026/0001018/FULM.
