A couple say they have lost £7,000 after the pub they booked for their wedding went into liquidation.

Andy Bordley had used money his late mother left him to pay for the ceremony and reception at The Hare & Hounds in Keresley, Coventry, in April. He has since been alerted by a friend in the pub trade that the venue had closed.

"We got everything organised; the venue, the DJ... We didn't know this was going to happen. We had no idea that they were in such bad debt," said Bordley.

In correspondence to people, the pub's owners said "every available avenue" had been tried to avert the problem, and the BBC understands firm Cromwell Insolvency has been appointed to handle the case.

Bordley said that "potentially, we could have lost the lot".

When he got no reply to his emails and calls to the venue, he put information on social media and others affected got in touch.

"I know at least 10 couples that are in the same situation as ourselves. Not only that, there are people who've booked birthday parties," Bordley said.

He said not knowing what was going to happen was starting to affect his mental health.

"I've not gone out the house for three days, I've been crying constantly, just worried about what's going to happen," he said.

"Some people have offered room hire for free, which is amazing.

"Some have offered discounted rates, which is a lovely gesture, but if you haven't any money left in the pot, you can't do much about it."

The BBC understands that people affected in similar ways to Bordley have now received apology emails.

Correspondence seen by the corporation said The Hare & Hounds was "no longer in business with Triple H Hospitality Ltd, as unfortunately we are going into liquidation".

"We have employed a team of liquidators who will be in touch with you as this does mean that your wedding will be cancelled at this venue," the correspondence states.

It also said an organisation had been in touch "to request names and numbers, as they could potentially offer [customers] an alternative venue... depending on availability".

"Although it is of little comfort to you both, we do sincerely apologise as we have tried every available avenue to avoid this happening with no success."

The pub, on Watery Lane in Keresley, was run by Triple H Hospitality with its head office listed as being in Sheffield.

The BBC understands the firm was run by Gary John Henney and Kellie Susan Elizabeth Henney, who have a correspondence address in Nuneaton.

Details from Companies House show that Triple H Hospitality had not filed a mandatory confirmation statement since 2024, with a notice to strike the company off the business register published on 6 January 2026.

While it is understood Cromwell Insolvency has been appointed as liquidators, the firm said it was "not at liberty to discuss the case".
