A Coventry charity shop that has helped hundreds of people across the city will soon be closing. The Betty Ennis Foundation has been serving the community for many years, but will now be shutting its doors for good.

Carrying forward the legacy of community hero Betty Ennis, who passed away in 2019, the Betty Ennis Foundation has been instrumental in supporting people across Willenhall. But the charity will now be closing on Friday, November 14.

Staff said the decision was made with a 'heavy heart' and thanked people for their understanding. Challenges posed by the economic climate have made it 'impossible' to continue operating, they added.

Donations are no longer being accepted. Customers are invited to say their goodbyes ahead of the final day on November 14.

A spokesman for The Betty Ennis Foundation Charity Hub said: “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of The Betty Ennis Foundation Charity. Despite our best efforts, the challenges posed by economic conditions and unfortunate past mistakes, the new trustees, alongside our wonderful manager, have been fighting since we came in at the beginning of the year to save the charity.

“We have done everything in our power, but keep facing new unexpected issues that we have no control over, which unfortunately means we have now exhausted all options, and it is impossible to continue operating. Trustees have made the painful decision that we can no longer do what the charity was set up for, and we therefore are not meeting our obligations to help the community as we want to, and so it is time to close.

“We were set up to help and support the community, and over the years, we have seen and helped so many wonderful people, and we have also had help from lots of wonderful people. We really are so grateful to each and every person who helped the charity thrive over the years.”
