Collections are likely to be delayed until September 29

Residents are being warned of delays to bin collections in Coventry. It comes as a major waste site closes for two weeks today (September 15).

When household bins are collected, the rubbish is usually deposited at the Waste to Energy Plant off London Road. However, the site will be closed for two weeks while routine maintenance is completed.

Crews will instead be taking household waste to a facility in Bubbenhall. Additional lorries will be used to minimise disruption over the two-week period.

Collections are likely to be delayed until Monday, September 29. If any bins are missed, they will be emptied the following day, according to Coventry City Council.

Bins used for recycling and garden waste will be unaffected. Residents can check their scheduled collection days by visiting the Coventry City Council website and entering the name of their road.

A spokesman for Coventry City Council said: “When household waste bins are collected, the waste is taken to the Waste to Energy Plant off London Road. Every two years, the site closes for routine maintenance for two weeks.

“It means that green-lidded bin collection rounds may take longer than usual. We will provide additional drivers and vehicles to help prevent disruption, but some residents may not get their household waste emptied on their scheduled day.

“Residents are asked to leave their missed bins out, and crews will return the following day to ensure they are emptied. Check your scheduled collection days on our website at http://www.coventry.gov.uk/bindays.”

Council bosses have warned that households could face delays to bin collections. The city council has said that it may impact those waiting for green lid bin collections today (Thursday, October 9) and tomorrow (Friday, October 10).

"This is due to essential repairs at our waste site", the council has said in a social media message. It adds that if some collections are missed, locals should leave their bins out.

The message stresses that recycling and garden waste collections will not be affected by the potential delays.

The full message reads: "There may be some delays to scheduled household waste (green-lidded) bin collections today (Thursday) and tomorrow (Friday) due to essential repairs at our waste site.

"If your bin is missed, please leave it out and crews will return the following day to collect your bin. Recycling and garden waste collections will not be affected. Thank you for your patience."
