A Nuneaton estate chosen to receive a huge £20m investment. It has been revealed that Camp Hill has been chosen by the government to pioneer a new way of deciding how to spend public money on local projects.

Through the Plan for Neighbourhoods fund, the area will have £2million a year, for ten years, Jodie Gosling, Nuneaton's MP has told CoventryLive. It is ring-fenced to be spent on anything from local park improvements to fixing up empty buildings and high streets.

However, locals have to decide what the funding is spent on. They have to put bids together for projects to be funded. "Local people know their area better than anyone else and that is why the government has decided to do this differently," the local MP said.

In the announcement, the town's voice in Parliament added: "This is our chance to improve our local area by making the big decisions for ourselves- not by letting other people make decisions for us. It is a pot of money intended to make our area an even better place to live.

"Getting an extra £2million a year, for ten years, is a massive investment in Camp Hill. We can choose to spend it on a wide range of different projects and all ideas are welcome. This is our chance to show what people in Nuneaton can do."

A local board will be set up to pull together the ideas for projects for funding. This is not the first Plan for Neighbourhoods fund cash to come the borough's way.
