It was playing for hours through the night
Residents around a Coventry park were woken up by the haunting sound of a war siren this weekend. The bizarre incident saw the well-known alarm sound being played on a loop for five hours through the night on Sunday morning (31 August) - it was so loud it woke people up.
A resident who lives on the edge of the park told CoventryLive: "It woke me up - I couldn't believe it. It must have started around 2am and kept going until just after 7am.
"It was so strange. I think it was coming from a massive speaker somewhere in the park - it was so loud people all around Longford and Aldermans Green, maybe even Holbrooks, would have heard it.
"I'm guessing it was a joke of some sort - but it woke all of us up."
The noise, which can be heard in the attached video captured by the resident, is one which would have once struck terror into the hearts of Coventrians during World War Two, signalling the beginning of enemy air raids and urging residents to find shelter. We have approached Coventry City Council to ask if they can shed any more light on it.
