The Butts boozer has been closed since January
A popular Coventry pub located just outside the city centre has been boarded up. The Aardvark on the Butts has been closed for several months.
As reported previously by CoventryLive, pub company Stonegate, which owns it, had previously said the venue would be "reopen in the future". But with the large street-facing windows now covered by metal shutters, it is still not known when this might be.
We have approached them to ask about the latest development and to see if there is an update on when its doors might be open again.
A image taken at the site shows a van belonging to the HEB Group - a maintenance company specialising in mechanical and electrical work, facilities management, and cleaning and hygiene.
In a brief statement issued previously, a spokesman for Stonegate said: "The Aardvark is currently closed, but there are plans to reopen it in the future."
In recent years the Aardvark has been more associated with the university population due to its location and its branding as part of the Scream pub chain. However, its history far pre-dates the city's status as a student area.
Opened as the Hen and Chickens in the 1830s, it changed its name to the Fowl and Firkin in the early 1990s. A 1980s landlord of the pub was named Mick Anthill and the pub assumedly coincidentally was renamed the Aardvark at the start of the century.
Its open plan design, multiple pool tables and screens all around the pub made it popular with sport fans as well as the Coventry's student population.
