The Town Hall says it currently 'not compliant' and provides 'difficulty for those with visibility issues'Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is set to change its long-standing logo. For many years the council has had the same font and logo as well as the red and green corporate colours.
But, according to a new cabinet report, this is set to change. It says that results of a review undertaken last year concerns have been raised about the colours and logo.
"There were concerns over the colour scheme and the new accessibility standards, which apply to all websites and online content to allow specialist software to operate correctly for those people who require additional support," the report states.
It explains that the current logo does not meet 'equality' standards. "The changes to the corporate colours and Logo will have a positive impact from an equality perspective," the report states.
"The previous designs were difficult for those with visibility issues to view due to the colour contrasts used. The new colours/logos will be easier to view for the majority of viewers and compliant with accessibility standards."
It also says the font and size of lettering is also not compliant: "The current Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council logo fails and does not meet accessibility requirements," the report states.
"The colour of the text does not meet the required 4:5:1 ratio. The green background colour that is used does also not meet the correct contrast ratio when the logo and writing are placed on top, with both the coloured logo and white logo."
The full cost of the change is not yet known but a change in logo will impact everything from council vans to letters it sends out.
The report states: "Minimal cost to update website colour which is covered in current budgets, but all future costs will be absorbed within scheduled replacements."
The new corporate colours are set to be predominantly green. The final decision on the change is set to be made by members of the council's cabinet at a meeting on Wednesday, January 29.
