A Coventry drink-driver who crashed a Toyota Prius in the city has been spared jail. Police said the incident happened in Cheylesmore on New Years Day.

Officers were called to Quinton Park at around 8am on Wednesday, January 1. Two men were arrested including 24-year-old Anjana Lagadapati.

Lagadapati was subsequently charged with drink-driving, driving without insurance, and driving a vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence, West Midlands Police said. He appeared at Coventry Magistrates' Court last Wednesday (January 15).

He was fined £120 but spared jail. A 27-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and taking a vehicle without consent has been bailed.

In a statement to CoventryLive, West Midlands Police said: “We were called following a collision on Quinton Park in Coventry at around 8am on January 1.
