Police are investigating after a DPD delivery driver was robbed in Coventry. He was forced out of his van on Providence Street in Earlsdon.
Parcels were stolen from the van during the incident, which happened at around 10am on Friday (November 29). Police said the offenders then fled the scene and are yet to be apprehended.
Detectives investigating the incident have urged those who saw what happened to get in touch with them by calling 101. Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers.
Police also issued a warning amid a rise in delivery people being targeted in the run-up to Christmas. Officers say they are 'working hard' to prevent robberies, thefts, and assaults in Coventry and across the West Midlands.
In a statement issued today (December 3), West Midlands Police said: “We are investigating after parcels were stolen from a delivery van in Coventry. Shortly before 10am on November 29, the driver of the van was forced out of his vehicle by unknown people, who stole a number of parcels before leaving the scene.
“Anyone who was in the area at the time and has more information can contact us via 101 or Live Chat, quoting crime number 20/984209/24. In the winter months, we see an increase in delivery people becoming victims of robbery, theft, and assault.
“We are working hard and focusing resources on robbery and theft to keep you safe. As the nights get darker, we want to encourage drivers to consider their personal security and protect their livelihood.
“If something does not look or feel right, do not make the delivery. Stay in your vehicle and report any suspicious activity to us on 101 or your employer.
“Be aware of anyone acting suspiciously when you are in any delivery area, and think about fitting an approved vehicle tracker and installing a dashcam. If you feel there is a threat to your life, call 999 immediately. If you feel you cannot stay where you are, call us and get to a place of safety.”
