The food giant said it planned to spend more than £20m on its Bedworth store and hoped to create 150 new jobs.

It should be open by Christmas 2011 after planners at Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council approved the proposal.

Tony Fletcher, corporate affairs manager for Tesco, said when it is finished it would be a major boost to Bedworth town centre.

"Overall, when it's finished, I think we believe that the new store will provide a really good focus for Bedworth and help bring existing customers back and new customers to the town centre," Mr Fletcher said.

"So we hope everyone will benefit from this investment."
