Police made the surprise discovery after being called out to a break-in at the derelict building on Camphill Road



Two Coventry men have been arrested after an empty old bingo hall and social club in Nuneaton was converted into a cannabis factory. The surprise discovery was found in the derelict Grand Bingo & Social Club on Camphill Road - along with a stash of dangerous weapons.

Police were called out to reports of a break-in at the property, which closed back in 2021 and was put on the market for auction. Officers responded to a 999 call at 4am on Tuesday morning (June 11) to a report that four males were trying to force entry inside.

The lock was reportedly snapped on the front door to the building. But when police went inside the building, they found a 'cannabis grow'. There were a total of 112 plants being grown in two rooms.

There was also a tiny bed set up with a television screen showing CCTV cameras. They also found a cutlass-style sword, a large hatchet, a tomahawk, several meat cleavers, a 10-inch “zombie knife”, a six-inch kitchen knife, and three crowbars.

Two men were arrested, one aged 19 and one aged 24, both from Coventry. They were taken into custody to be questioned on suspicion of burglary (non-dwelling) and going equipped.
